Children and Extra Beds:

The Sofitel does not charge children under 12 years of age if they are staying in a room occupied by parents and using the existing bedding. This is limited to one child per family, however, and additional fees will be charged should parents require a rollaway bed and free of charge for baby cot.

For children 3 years and below, breakfast is complimentary. For children between the ages of 3 and 12 breakfast is charged but at a special children’s rate, while those above 12 years of age are charged the same rate as an adult.

Historic hotel with a really historic wingThursday, 17 May 2012

Great location, friendly (not formal) service, beautiful interiors and pool area

This is my second stay at Sofitel Metropole, and I chose the Historic Metropole wing (as opposed to the newer Opera Wing). The rooms are more expensive but clearly more beautiful and atmospheric! While Opera Wing rooms are modern with art-deco touches, the Historic wing has a more old-world colonial feel. I chose the luxury room (cheapest in the historic wong) and love the wooden floors and windows, the tasteful chaise lounge at the foot of the bed, the subdued warm lighting, and traditional curtain treatment, lots of framed pictures of people/places (a total of 6 in the room, and 1 in the bathroom). A small green celedon bowl of red carnations complete the look. The bathroom has a mega-size bath tub (almost like a jacuzzi), lots of mirrors, 2 modes of lighting, nice Occitane toiletries, and green/cream ceramic holders. Subdued and elegant (the Opera Wing's bathrooms are 'louder' with bright red tiles, bright lights, and huge photo prints). Overall, I loved the Historic Wing experience far more than the Opera Wing.
