Barcamp Saigon 2009

Barcamp Vietnam

Californian-born international technology event Barcamp hits Ho Chi Minh City for the second year running on Dec. 13. The one-day event, which gathers together technical minds from around Vietnam and surrounding countries, will take place at RMIT University, with sessions running in rooms throughout the day.

According to organisers Thomas Wanhoff and Anh Hung, this year’s event in Hanoi was a great success and saw more than 200 people attend with talks ranging from social networks to Twitter, to online marketing and beyond.

“The scope of topics is very broad,” says Thomas. “If you want to do a session yourself, you simply write it down on a post-it on the event timetable so that everyone knows when to attend.”

Priding itself on its informality, Barcamp is user-generated, meaning that the open-participatory workshop events must be lead, supported or helped by attendees. Sessions this year are expected to include discussion on programming, web development, education, technology usage and entrepreneurship. Attendance is free, with lunch and a T-shirt provided.

“If you are working in the online industry you can meet people there who are doing the same thing, share information with them as well as learn things yourself,” says Anh Hung.

Your current web browser must be updated to version 7 of Internet Explorer (IE7) to take advantage of all of template's capabilities.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
